Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Officers report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then located many other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests suggest the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; officials are not yet informed of any physical harm in association with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to solve the case" and have requested to the public for information.
An important representative commented the attack left him speechless and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a assailant aiming at people of immigrant origin in 2020.
